Target of 10 scrolls reached

With the completion of 10 scrolls, it feels like time to reflect on that achievement. The sewing sessions have been confessional, funny, fun and surprising. We have been working with slippery thread, have occasionally dropped and lost needles between the floorboards, pulled threads out and started again, have tried hard to sew squares and straight lines and made and accepted inevitable ‘errors’.…

Conversations

Today we talked about mothers, mothers-in-law, exes, current partners, houses, extensions, gardens, garages, sheds the need for a space to work in, making work and getting critical feedback dogs, cats, bunny rabbits … and stampeding cattle Claire is a rescuer of dozy wasps, baby squirrels and trapped butterflies and Ruth is planning to make fruit brandies …

The scrolls as objects

There are now seven finished scrolls, each one of them different. Rosie hung one up today and suddenly we were looking at it as an object in space, and as it happens a very beautiful object, with little rips and tears and scrumpled areas, pierced holes and trailing threads. 

White boiler suits

After a short break, we started stitching the “zingy squares” again yesterday and caught up on each others’ news at the same time. Finishing and achieving

Today three of us (me, Rosie, Claire) finished a scroll to loud clapping and expressions of joy.
